The Significance
of the Project
Uncorrected refractive errors are an
important cause of visual impairment
in many countries. In developing countries,
however, it is often difficult to provide
an efficient refraction service for
a variety of reasons. In the National
Capital itself, it is estimated that
about 250,000 children would be in the
risk category. An even more terrifying
statistic is the fact that the children
and their parents are largely unaware.
Left unattended, such problems assume
more damaging proportions and impact
the normal physiological and psychological
growth of the children.
At the end of the intervention, the
project aims to achieve the following:
Screen 300,000 children
Give vision correction glasses
to 10,000 children
Medically treat 10,000 children
Surgically treat 300 children
Establish awareness and create
a self-sustaining movement for Paediatric
Eye Care in the community.
