Effective eye care does not depend only on doctors, but equally on a wide range of related eye care workers - optometrists, opticians, and technicians, bio-medical technicians, eye care administrators, and rehabilitation professionals.

Therefore, we train eye care professionals across all the subspecialties of the eye and at all different levels of eye care.

SCEH Training Centre offers long-term and short-term fellowships in various subspecialties of the eye, ophthalmology, a fellowship in comprehensive ophthalmology, short-term Observership in subspecialties of the eye, fellowship in optometry, hands on training, short term training in low vision and rehabilitation, vision technician course, contact lens.

Technical and TrainingFacilities

Dr. Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital is a tertiary eye care centre, which serves every major area of eye health. At SCEH a trainee can acquire the widest kind of experience in eye health, eye surgical procedures, technical training, rehabilitation and low vision programme and other ancillary activities.

The Institute has an excellent infrastructure with well-equipped examination rooms, five dedicated operating rooms, and supporting diagnostic and therapeutic services. SCEH also has satellite clinics where trainees are given a chance to practice independently.

We have cutting edge equipment for eye examinations, diagnostics, laser treatment, surgery, contact lens care, as well as clinical research. The Institute has dedicated laboratories for microbiology, and serology, and a surgical wet laboratory. Operation Theater is equipped with zass microscopes with assistant scopes and CCTV, advanced Phaco & Vit rectomy systems. State of the Art diagnostic equipments like digital fundus camera, visual fields analysis, topography, OCT, Hess charting.

There is a dedicated building for pediatric eye care. Our Vision Rehabilitation Centres are model centres for rehabilitation of people with low vision across the globe. SCEH also has its own Eye Bank.

Community eye care and public health care are an integral part of SCEH focus. Our Out-Reach department is aimed at setting up long-term relationship with local communities within the area of Delhi as well as Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pardesh. SCEH organized various camps provides community eye care for underserved urban areas, while functioning as a nodal centre for dispensing eye care through a number of rural eye care centres across Delhi.

The practical training available at these centres forms a valuable resource for trainees. They can benefit from our rotation system, which allows them to work for varying periods of time, either independently or under a supervisor, depending on the nature of the course.

All these opportunities combine to give fellows and trainees at our Institute excellent hands-on experience and the confidence that comes with such experience to mould them into world-class professionals.

Daily Classes and Seminars

SCEH has a daily academic class for fellows at 8.00 a.m. that is moderated by In-house and guest faculty. All sub-specialties (Cornea, Glaucoma, Retina, Paediatric Ophthalmology, Oculoplasty and Cataract) are covered on a weekly basis.  Case presentation, journal clubs, seminars and symposia and lectures are the methods by which academic classes are conducted.

We have been regularly conducting classes with in-house and outside guest faculties. SCEH has a regular annual programme of seminars and symposia on the various subspecialties of ophthalmology, low vision care, and contact lens education. Eye care professionals, doctors, and researchers from attend these programmes, across the country. In addition, the Institute hosts several international seminars throughout the year, where distinguished eye health specialists, as well as visitors from hospitals and research centres all over the world are invited to present their papers.

Students and trainees are encouraged to attend these seminars, so that they are exposed to the latest debates, discussions and reports of new research in their respective fields.
Accommodation and Food

Fellows are provided shared bachelor's accommodation in the hospital campus during the training period (depends on availability) by paid nominal charges. Single Room paid (Guest House) facility in hospital campus is only available for foreign trainees. During rotation periods accommodation is also provided to fellows/trainees.

Cafeteria services (vegetarian) are available in the hospital campus at subsidized rates.
