Fellowship in Optometry

This course offers an opportunity to upgrade necessary clinical, technical and theoretical skills through lectures and rotational postings in different clinics such as paediatrics, cornea, glaucoma, retina, contact lens, low vision rehabilitation, community eye care and ophthalmic dispensing.

The selected candidates would also learn diagnostic procedures such as applanation tonometry, slit lamp examination, non-contact tonometry, keratometry, A-scan biometry, pachymetry, directs and indirect ophthalmoscopy, automated field analysis, B-scan, ophthalmic photography and other such subjects.

 

 Course Details:
Duration of Course

Two years for diploma holders / One year for graduates

 

Eligibility Criteria

The minimum qualification should be Diploma / Degree in Optometry /Orthoptics.

 

Selection

Through interview.

 

Application procedure

Interested candidates are requested to submit their bio-data and photocopy of certificates by the first week of March for April batch and by the first week of September for October batch.

 

Facilities

24-hour library – which contains multiple volumes of Journals in addition to books, Computers with DSL Internet connection, CD-ROMS, Videos, Slide collection, and Audiotapes.   

 

Remuneration

A monthly stipend will be provided with yearly increments. The best performance awarded at the end of the programme.

 

Accommodation

Provided within the hospital campus.

 

Food/Meals

Can be availed from the Hospital canteen at the subsidized rates.

 

Expectations

Students applying for this fellowship should be serious about learning and willing to work hard. A strict course curriculum will be followed, and punctuality, thoroughness, conscientiousness and a professional approach will be expected.

There will be a written examination followed by oral interview to assess the basic capabilities of the candidates. The educational language medium will be English.
