In 2007, the Institute in collaboration with World Diabetes Foundation started a focused intervention to (a) spread awareness about diabetes and its effect on the eye (2) Identify and treat people who had developed or were in the danger of developing diabetic retinopathy in Alwar District, Rajasthan. For the past year, the project team focused on the population of Alwar Town itself and has made a difference to the lives of many people. The rich data that is being collected will definitely help the institution in highlighting the menace of diabetes in semi urban settings and will also help in developing health interventions.
