Volunteer and Learn
The hospital is happy to welcome volunteers from around the world.

The effort is to provide the volunteers a “practicum – experience” and help them get an insight into Indian culture along with a close quarters look at the life and routine in an eye hospital and the eye care scenario in India.

This programme has been running since 2003, and over the years, volunteer students from various corners of the world have participated.

Desired qualification Anyone into medical school/optometry school/nursing school/public health
What the volunteers can look forward to • Rotation through various departments like General Ophthalmology, Cornea, Glaucoma, Vitre-retina, Paediatric Ophthalmology, Vision Enhancement, Vision Rehabilitation, Community Eye care, Operation Theatre
• Visit to satellite hospitals
• Project work involved towards improving “Patient Satisfaction”. Volunteers are encouraged to show proactive-ness on projects and develop project ideas.
• Classes(optional) for optometrists and Doctors.
• 5 day week, Monday to Friday; 8.30am to 5pm (IST).
• Use of the library and internet facilities.
Duration Minimum period of 1 month
Accommodation & Facilities • win sharing /single with air conditioning is available at a budget hotel near the hospital campus. The cost per day for accommodation comes to approximately $12per day
• per person.($1=Rs.40)
• The hospital takes care of the airport-hotel transfer
• Free messing (food) facilities at the hospital canteen.
Hospital’s Expectations • Volunteers are expected to be formally attired during duty hours. (Trousers and shirts)
• Adherence to hospital rules and regulations.
