Dr. Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital (SCEH) research department is registered and recognized by the Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) since 2013.
Research has been an integral part of our hospital. This includes both basic science and clinical research. It was initiated by a few like-minded research enthusiasts and academicians whose sole motive was the facilitation of ethical research and innovation in the field of Ophthalmology.
As per the curriculum of our fellowship program in various subspecialties at our institute, all the fellow doctors need to engage in one or more clinical research studies. This helps to sow the seed of research and encourage them to come out with new research ideas and get their papers published in journals or present their work in various conferences. We have regular classes and workshops teaching research methodology to budding researchers.
We have several publications in various peer-reviewed journals both national and international. More than 100 papers have been published in the last few years.
Our hospital is sought after site for various clinical trials including several phase 3 & 4 trials, post-marketing clinical trials for the efficacy and safety of various new drugs which would help manage our patients better in future. Nearly 20 trials have been completed and 5-6 trials are ongoing which are managed by the research coordinator and clinical research Officers
SCEH also has two governing bodies that are responsible for ensuring the scientific content of the study and the safety of the patients. The scientific committee and the Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC) comprising both external and internal members fulfilling the quorum requirements of CDSCO & ICMR. The Committee monitors the conduct of various clinical trials as per GCP and the EC SOP.
