Eye Bank Facility

With a vision to be the best eye care hospital in India, the Cornea department setup its premier eye bank facility in assistance with Miracles in Sight- one of the largest eyebank in the world. Our eye bank is regarded amongst the top 10 eyebanks in India supplying corneal tissue not only inhouse, but also to other eye care hospitals across India. Corneal Tissues are procured and analysed in detail including blood sampling from the deceased. The skill and meticulousness of work at the eyebank, ensures a minimal waiting list of the corneal transplant registered patients. The eyebank also manufactures amniotic membrane and supplies the same inhouse and to corneal surgeons elsewhere

Research

The research experience of the department is another feather in the cap. Owing to the vast numbers treated, the team extensively keeps publishing their learnings to add to the scientific literature. There are many publications in indexed and peer reviewed journals, and the team is also involved in various clinical trials.

Training

Training forms an important extension of the team at SCEH including short term keratoplasty, long term cornea fellowships and multiple short courses in the field of cornea and anterior segment. Training of eye bank personnel is another important feature the department is involved in. The team has so far successfully trained long and short term cornea fellows and thus facilitated the need of corneal surgeons wherever they go post training.

Teleophthalmology

Owing to difficult access from remote areas and to ease travel costs and reduce morbidity from corneal diseases, cornea department does teleophthalmology based consults from its peripheral and vision centres to aid in enhancing speed and accuracy of treatment.

Contact Lens facility

The department of contact lens is an integral component of cornea clinic and works as a great adjunct in improving vision and comfort for all our patients. The skill and ease of dispensing various types of contact lenses makes it a strong centre of referral for the same.

The cornea team is constituted by all well trained and fellowship certified surgeons with education and experience from various leading institutes in the country and abroad. The patient friendly attitude, compassion and using a holistic treatment approach are other assets of the faculty.
